GOVERNOR DAVID IGE CABINET MEMBER'S APPOINTMENT

LETTER TO THE EDITOR Congratulations and hats off to the new Governor of Hawaii Hon David Ige. He is NOW in charge as a commander in chief and as the head of the State government. With his meticulous process and his selection for his members of his cabinets to work with him, I hope he can find the best qualified candidates from among cross section of society for fair and equal representation among ethnicities. I admire him how he said: "To determine where it is we want to go, we must FIRST remember where we came from". It reminds me the Filipino adage, it goes something like this: Ang hindi marunong lumingon sa kanyang pinanggalingan, ay hindi makararating sa patutunguhan [He who does not know to look at his past, he does not reach his destiny]. Also similar to what the national Filipino hero Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal y Realonda said: He who does not know his own language, is worse than a smelly fish" I am a son of an immigrant and a grandson of a sakada who worked at the sugar plantation, for more than a century, Filipinos now is completely different as they brought with them the aspiration to live in a better life. They were part of the changed, and I hope, Governor Ige would consider to utilize the talent and expertise of these younger generation from the Filipinos in Hawaii in particular and from all nationalities - who also came here as an immigrants - seeking for better life. Amado I. Yoro Ewa

He welcomed everyone for attending and opened the meeting with a prayer. ================== Resolution 2011-5A: H. Council of Past Presidents. The Committee on Council of Past Presidents shall comprise of all surviving Past Presidents of the Council and shall act as an advisory council to the President and the Board of Directors. The Immediate Past President shall serve as Chairperson of this Committee. =================== Rationale: A Council of Past Presidents which exists to provide advice to the President and the Board of Directors, would utilize the past experience of presidents of the Council. ============= Role of Council of Past Presidents – Danny Villaruz re-iterated and clarified that the role of the Council of Past Presidents will only be advisory in nature. The Council unanimously agreed that based on their past experiences as Past President of OFCC, that they can be more effective in supporting OFCC to carry out its mission. =========== Past Experiences and Observations – Each Past President in attendance shared their experiences under their respective Administrations. They gave a few advices to the new leadership and expressed their willingness to come back, be more involved and to support OFCC. They would like to see an increase in unit membership and the availability of having a legal adviser at every meeting. ================== Implementation of Resolution 2011-5A– 1. Creation of guidelines for the Council of Past Presidents. Amado Yoro duly made a motion that the Council be comprised of a minimum of 5 members (which reflects 1/4 of the total 21 surviving Past Presidents) and the required presence of at least 3 members to make a quorum; seconded by Gerry Rojo. Motion carried. 2. Franklin Borromeo duly made a motion to appoint Jean Jeremiah as recorder for the Council; seconded by Jenny Quezon. Motion carried. 3. Jenny Quezon duly made a motion that the Council will meet quarterly on the third week of the Quarter, date and time to be determined; with the required minimum of 3 members having the authority to call for Special Meetings for urgent and pressing matters; seconded by Jun Abinsay. Motion carried. 4. The Council agreed to follow the language of Resolution 2011-5A – that the Council will act as advisors only. ================ Suggestions: 1. OFCC should operate as the umbrella of all unit organizations in Oahu. 2. Form partnerships with unit organizations to encourage and motivate them to be more involved. OFCC can help other unit organizations by offering them a percentage generated from fundraising projects or events. This will also eliminate competition among unit organizations and OFCC. 3. Implement Resolution 2010 that was presented and approved at last years 2010 Annual OFCC Convention. 4. Offer a letter of sympathy to the family of the late Mel Europa, to be signed by the Chairman (Danny Villaruz) and the President of OFCC (Maria Etrata). ====================== Adjournment – With no further discussions, the meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m. The next COPP meeting is scheduled for Sept 23, 6pm Venue: TBA LIVING PAST PRESIDENTS 1.
