Day 1 & 2 46th Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii 46th Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii Oct 24, 25, 2014 Reported by Amado I. Yoro to SPC Sunday 10/26/14 DAY ONE: October 24, 2014 Friday ----First day of the 46th Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii held at the Cathedral of St Andrew Queen Emma Square.....2 Corinthians 5:17 so then, if anyone is in Christ, that person is part of the new creation. The old things have gone away, and look, new things have arrived! ================== About 70 Clergy, and 140 lay persons representing the various congregations from all over the State of Hawaii, Guam and Micronesia. St Paul's Church is one of the 34 congregations and has been represented by delegates: Marcelo Acopan, Jr., Nenita Agbayani, Maribel Duldulao, Fay de Jesus. Fely Mariano, Lolita Peralta, Emma Valdez, Amado Yoro with Fr. Randy Albano and Deacon Peter Wu. ===================== Alternate Irene Viernes stayed for the 2 days.==================== Keynote Speaker was Kevin Martin from Texas===Talked about EMPOWERING PEOPLE, WORKING WITH ONE ANOTHER, One Diocese, One Mission, One Bishop, working the mission of the church, reaching out, look what happened 5 years back and foresee 5 years ahead--------invite the unchurched people, give back, forgiving others=====sharing to one another with COMPASSION, Walk to walk, walk to talk ==what is a MISSION=== What is DIVERSITY====== Speaker Martin is a good speaker with voice variation, appropriate gestures with emphasis, force in stage presence======[with humor] ====QUOTE: Be faithful in your age where you live. He talked inspirational, motivational and educational. ================ Election was very fast, quick and efficient in 6 1/2 minutes=======Delegates received a sealed envelope as they registered========open only by the instruction of the presiding officer [the Bishop].====At the Convention Eucharist was held at SPC and most of our own Eucharistic Ministers did their part and our Choir Group. ======================== DAY TWO- October 25, 2014 Saturday===== First business was the Bishop’s Address==About his 3 major goals 1. Shared Ministry 2. Forming leaders for ministry 3. Christian and leadership formation and outreach ==================== All NINE RESOLUTIONS WERE PASSED including Reso #9 Courtesy Resolution was presented expressing gratitude to certain individual who served in the Diocese or still serving in the Diocese and certain group and one of those mentioned is Fr. Randy and SPC and our volunteers. ===================== EYE- Episcopal Youth Event=====This is an area that we at the church must take a good look and to consider to be more proactive with all the cooperation of parents and/or guardian of these youth. – Sarah Klitzke, Youth Director ============================== FINAL COMMENT FROM THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER REV. KEVIN MARTIN *No second ballot.============== He was impressed how the election was conducted in 6 and a half minutes for the different positions including the confirmation of the Bishop’s appointment. It was quick, fast and efficient way to conduct an election======sealed manila envelope was given to each delegate upon registration time. FELLOWSHIP ==============sometimes called coffee hour, or coffee after communion should be STAND IN SOLIDARITY *Isolation ================is a church illness-----meaning we must reach out ============= NEXT ANNUAL CONVENTIONS: 2015 =October 23. 24. 2015 – Iolani High School 2016 =October 28, 29, 2016 – 2017 =October 27.28, 2017 – ===================== Recommendation: SPC should have more participation to the Diocesan level like the time Fr. Randy’s first 7 years 1999-2006 especially our Youth. =============== Other announcement GENERAL CONVENTION WILL HELD IN SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH IN JUNE 2015. ==================== Convention IS to me personally, reconnection, meeting old friends and acquaintances: Rev. Isaias Ginson, Bishop Irene Maliaman-Guam; Mary Schulz-Kauai
