ANGIE DYTIOCO SANTIAGO FOR OFCC PRESIDENT 2014

ANGIE DYTIOCO SANTIAGO =====ASPIRING FOR OFCC PRESIDENCY 2014====== ANGIE DYTIOCO SANTIAGO OFCC 2014 Dear 2014 OFCC Convention Delegates, Saturday, June 14, 2014, will be an important date for the Oahu Filipino Community Council (OFCC), since we will be electing new OFCC leaders for 2014 - 2015. As the largest Filipino umbrella organization on Oahu, we must elect a president who will not only represent and lead OFCC for a year, but will approach this position with passion, commitment, and fresh ideas for the future - as well as a sense of humor and humility. ======================== As the current First Vice President of OFCC and the immediate past president of the Bulacan Circle & Associates of Hawaii, I feel I can serve our organization well in that role. ================ I believe a good leader should be actively involved with the community and be able to work collaboratively with the leaders and members of other organizations, businesses and agencies. My experiences as a Fil-Am Courier columnist and my 40+ years of extensive volunteer activities have prepared me and provided me with skills that would benefit the OFCC. This volunteer experience includes: ============================= co-chairing the OFCC’s Feed-the Homeless and the Adopt-a-Highway Clean-up Projects, and the Adopt-a-Park Clean-up Project; donating blood, collecting canned goods, participating in various charity walks and concerts; fundraising through golf tournaments and huli-huli chicken sales, Aloha United Way, March of Dimes, Great Aloha Run, and other community efforts; raising relief funds for the victims of Typhoon Sendong through phone banking and the Kokua for the Philippines efforts; making lei for annual Memorial Day Programs, and honoring our Fil-Am Veterans; assisting in the welcoming of BRPs Gregorio del Pilar and Ramon Alcaraz; participating in labor support gatherings and the Aikea Coalition rally for hotel workers; promoting our Filipino culture and heritage through performing at and involvement in the Filipino Fiesta, the Santacruzan, and the Philippine Independence Gala; supporting FilCom Center’s fundraising efforts and cultural education programs; and involvement in the HGEA’s community sidewalk patching project. ======================================= My work experience includes over 28 years of employment with the City & County of Honolulu in various positions which have enabled me to interact well with people from all walks of life, a capability which will help me should I be elected to serve as OFCC President. Currently as an Equal Opportunity Specialist, my primary work focus includes ensuring compliance with anti-discrimination laws, handling of complaints, providing guidance and assistance with internal investigations, responding to federal or state agency charges, and training new employees, supervisors, and managers in the prevention of sexual harassment. ================================================== I believe a good leader should lead by example, respect and listen to others, and be organized, compassionate, open-minded, resourceful, approachable, objective and fair. A leader should be a team player, a unifier, and problem solver. I feel those are the qualities I’ve learned and practiced, and, if elected, they would guide me as OFCC President. ========================================== Angie’s VISION are as follows: Involve OFCC in key Issues such as Immigration Reform, Housing, and Jobs *================= Increase Scholarship Fundraising ============================ * Award More Scholarships ======================= * Support OFCC Unit Member Organizations *============================= Make OFCC more visible and recognizable *======================== Increase Health Awareness *========================== Enhance OFCC’s Financial Accountability *======================== Promote Filipino Language and Culture in Schools and the Community ============================ AWARDS: 2008 DHR Employee of the Year, City & County of Honolulu REV. A;EX RAVELO VERGARA ALSO RUNNING FOR OFCC PRESIDENT 2014
