GOVERNOR DAVID IGE CABINET MEMBER'S APPOINTMENT

LETTER TO THE EDITOR Congratulations and hats off to the new Governor of Hawaii Hon David Ige. He is NOW in charge as a commander in chief and as the head of the State government. With his meticulous process and his selection for his members of his cabinets to work with him, I hope he can find the best qualified candidates from among cross section of society for fair and equal representation among ethnicities. I admire him how he said: "To determine where it is we want to go, we must FIRST remember where we came from". It reminds me the Filipino adage, it goes something like this: Ang hindi marunong lumingon sa kanyang pinanggalingan, ay hindi makararating sa patutunguhan [He who does not know to look at his past, he does not reach his destiny]. Also similar to what the national Filipino hero Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal y Realonda said: He who does not know his own language, is worse than a smelly fish" I am a son of an immigrant and a grandson of a sakada who worked at the sugar plantation, for more than a century, Filipinos now is completely different as they brought with them the aspiration to live in a better life. They were part of the changed, and I hope, Governor Ige would consider to utilize the talent and expertise of these younger generation from the Filipinos in Hawaii in particular and from all nationalities - who also came here as an immigrants - seeking for better life. Amado I. Yoro Ewa
